This is because whereas monitors emit light, inked paper absorbs or reflects specific wavelengths. As a result, a printer uses a color mode such as CMYK(Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black), and a computer monitor uses a different type of color mode such as RGB(Red, Green, Blue). So, the same art displayed on a computer monitor may not match to that printed in a publication and vice versa. Although this can be rectified somewhat with ICC/ICM profiles, that is beyond the scope of this presentation.
Therefore, because these catalogue pages are illustrated here for display purposes only, they are using the CMYK color mode, representative of a document ready for printing.
